Chapter Four: Simple things to test in your marketing and advertising

Send out 2 or more separate mail-outs (different promotions) in the same package – test to see profitability.

Check the weight of your package now – is there extra weight allowed before going to the next postage level? If you can include more materials to bring it up to the maximum weight allowance, add more. (Make sure the weight measurements are being done with the stamp on, address labels on, paperclips included – everything that will be in the final mailer before testing weight. You do not want to miss this step and have 1,000 envelopes going out ready to go and then find out you are over the weight allowance).

Offer those Christmas leftover products for sale in the summer – Summer Time Santa Claus Sale.

For Christmas sales – offer a payment plan where they don’t have to pay until February.

Test out a longer trial period – make it twice as long – make sure it only goes to those who have never bought from you before.

Instead of calling them "order forms" – call them Exclusive Reservation Certificate, Trial Certificate, Application – test variations to see what response it has on orders.

Make your order form a very strong sales message – Try writing the order form immediately after the headlines are written – and before the main sales message is written. Why? Many people read the headline, the PS, then go straight to the order form – make sure it is strong enough to sell the offer in itself.
