Chapter Forty-two: Cirque du Soleil Delirium...Insanity or Genius?

Last night we went to see Cirque du Soleil Delirium. Our seats were excellent (at $125 per ticket – they better be!) and the show was... ok... I think.

Granted, I am not a real artsy person... but I have been to quite a few events like this before so I CAN speak from previous experiences.

The acrobatics and stunts were amazing!

The story line behind the whole thing was a disaster... not only to me, but to everyone else I asked who saw it.

No one had a clue what the story was about... other than people beating their drums – a guy dreaming – screaming princesses and insane guys on stilts spouting off strange languages (it didn't sound like any language I know of).

It kept you spellbound – but was wearing thin about half-way through as there was no real theme or plot to follow along with.

Maybe that WAS the plan? Delirium is the title so maybe it was.

The question for you is – is your advertising and marketing putting up a good show... but failing to deliver on the full story?

The pretty graphics and flashy tools can keep people spellbound – but it won't get them to order. THAT is up to the story you tell. And if the story is confusing – or misses the main point you have failed – and you will not achieve any significant level of sales.

I have done it myself – great ideas and "hooks" but the story failed to do the job – and the $'s suffered.

Think through all your marketing and advertising efforts:

· Do they capture the eye?

· Do they entice people to keep watching?

· Do they have a theme?

· Do they tell the complete story?

· Do they ask for the order – and give good reasons why?

· Is it easy for people to follow and understand what they must do next?

If any one of these is missing – you will not make the money you should.

And THAT is the goal of your marketing!
